Law of reflection of light

  1. The pattern of reflection light follows two important laws.
  2. The first law stated that when light rays get reflected from a smooth surface, the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence.
  3. The second law states that incident ray, reflected ray, and normal to the surface all lie in the same plane.
  4. These laws are applicable to all types of reflecting surfaces including spherical mirrors.

Explanation

  1. When a light ray passes through the center of curvature, the path of the light ray coincides with the normal at the point of incidence, forming a zero angle of incidence.
  2. According to the law of reflection, the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence, so the angle of reflection is zero. So the path of the reflected ray overlaps on the incident ray and passes through the center of curvature.
