Why alcohol cannot be used as solvents for grignard reagent ?

Compunds containing active hydogen like alchols, acids, amines,ammonia, acetylene react with carbanion of Grignards reagent and form corresponding alkanes.
(alcohols contain acidic hydrogen)
for example

Methyl magnesium bromide reacts with ethanol and methanol to form methane.

CH3MgBr + C2H5OH = CH4 + Mg(OC2H5)Br
