In atomic mass unit (short amu) the atomic mass is defined as the ratio between mass of one atom to mass of 1/16 of oxygen-16 atom. Due to some technical difficulties of using oxygen-16 as standard the scientists started to use carbon-12 as standard.
So the Unified atomic mass unit (shortly 'u') the atomic mass is defined as the ratio between mass of an atom to mass of 1/12 of carbon-12 atom. But still amu is used in many literatures to represent "u". This means that oxygen-16 is replaced by carbon-12 in all cases of scientific data. But the scientists are still using amu as well as u in the same way.
