Question

Why are anode rays also known as ‘canal rays’?

Open in App
Solution

Anode rays: Positively charged rays formed from a stream of protons are called anode rays.

  • When a perforated cathode or negative electrode is taken in a discharge tube, then the positively charged anode rays coming from the anode pass through these narrow perforations or holes of the cathode.
  • Due to the passage of the rays from these perforations or canals, they are called canal rays.
