Question

Why are atomic orbitals hybridised?

Open in App
Solution

Atomic orbitals get hybridised so as to form a new shape of electronic cloud which minimises the repulsion between pairs and thus forms a stable rearrangement.
Also, when the orbitals are getting hybridised at two different energy levels, the new orbital formed is at an intermediate level. This re-distribution of energy is highly favorable.
