Question

Why are camphor balls stored in air tight containers?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student
When camphor balls come in contact with air, they evaporate due to sublimation. Sublimation is the process in which the solid state directly changes into gaseous state, without coming into liquid form. camphor molecules are held together by weak force, even weaker than ice molecules and simply they sublimes very easily. Hence to prevent them from sublimation, they are stored in airtight containers.
