why are carbon compounds with single bond more stable?

Open in App
Solution

Single bonds are formed by axial overlap called head to head overlap. Whereas double bonds are having pi bonds and produced by lateral overlap called sideways overlap. Always head to head overlap are stronger than sideways overlap. That is why carbon compounds with single bonds are more stable.
