Question

Why are cells of collenchyma thick towards the corners?

Open in App
Solution

Collenchyma:

  1. Due to the hemicellulose, cellulose, and pectin deposits, the cells of collenchyma tissue are significantly thickened at the corners.
  2. Elongated cells with unevenly thickened walls make up collenchyma tissue.
  3. They offer structural support, particularly to leaves and budding shoots.
  4. In their natural state, Collenchyma cells only have a thick main cell wall made of cellulose and pectin.
