Question

Why are chimneys provided in factories?

Open in App
Solution

  1. In factories, chimneys are placed above furnaces to remove fumes, smoke, dust, etc.
  2. The air around the furnace becomes warmer and lighter.
  3. It rises up and moves out through the chimney.
  4. Dirty, smoky air from the rest of the factory rushes in to take that place.
  5. This air is also heated and escapes through the chimney.
  6. The cycle continues and all the polluted air is slowly expelled.

Thus, chimneys are provided in factories to remove the polluted air.
