Why are concentrated ores are converted into corresponding Oxides before reduction

Solution
It is easier to obtain metals from their oxides (by reduction) than from carbonates or sulphides.
So before reduction can be done, the ore isconverted into metal oxide. Theconcentrated ores can be converted intometal oxide by calcination or roasting.
The concentrated ore must be converted into a form which is suitable for reduction.
Usually the sulphide ore is converted to oxide before reduction.
Oxides are easier to reduce.
Thus isolation of metals from concentrated ore involves two major steps viz.,
