Why are dumping sites located at a distance away from human inhabitation in the city?

Usually, in every country, the sites for dumping waste is constructed far away from the human inhabitation. It is because the waste is considered to be the most possible way of the spread of communicable diseases. It could lead to the spread of any endemic or any epidemic disease. As waste material contains organic as well as in-organic matter, it is highly susceptible to be attacked by harmful micro-organisms leading to the spread of infectious disease in the nearby areas. Hence, the dumping sites are usually far away from the cities or any place with a large number of population.
