Enzymes of lysosomes

1. Small vesicles, lysosomes are connected by a single membrane.
2. It comprises hydrolytic enzymes in the form of microscopic semi-crystalline or crystalline granules (5 to 8 nm).
3. They are said to contain close to 50 enzymes.
4. There are distinct sets of enzymes in various types of lysosomes, however not all of the enzymes can be found in one lysosome.
5. Important enzymes include peptidases, sulphatases, proteases, acid phosphatases, lipases, nucleases, and carbohydrases.
6. Since these digestive enzymes normally operate in an acidic environment with a pH of 4 to 5, they are known as acid hydrolases.
