why are ethers not dried by conc H2SO4 ?

Dear Student,

Ethers are not dried by conc. H₂SO₄ as H₂SO₄ leads to the cleavage of C-O bond resulting is different types of products formed under different condistions.
For eg. Ether on reaction with conc. H₂SO₄ yields alcohol and alkyl hydrogen sulphate.
Secondary and tertiary ethers give alkenes when reacted with conc. H₂SO₄
