  1. Non-renewable energy sources are energy sources that are exhaustible. These cannot be renewed or replaced in a short period of time.
  2. They take millions of years to form.
  3. Examples are Coal, Petroleum, Natural gas, etc.

Fossil fuels are classified as non-renewal sources of energy because:

  1. These are found in limited quantities. These can be depleted by human activity and unable to be replenished quickly enough.
  2. Hence, they are classified as non-renewable energy sources.
