Why are free radicals bad?

  1. Free radicals are those radicals that are impaired in every molecule.
  2. They combine with other constituent units quickly to form the products accordingly.
  3. Many different organic molecules have a shorter life span and due to this free radicals multiply from time to time to avoid complete destruction.
  4. They are affected by the outside atmosphere and can be easily mixed with respective components.
  5. Example: Methyl radical.
  6. Some of the radicals are neutral in nature and some of them are charged.
  7. Instability: Free radicals are unstable in nature, so they can attract and combine with other elements quickly and easily.
  8. High reactivity: Free radicals possess high reactivity, and due to this other elements come and merge with them.
  9. Types of free radicals are shown below.
