Why are glasses called supercooled liquids?

Glass –

• It is a transparent or coloured hard substance.
• It is formed by melting sand/silica$\left({\mathrm{SiO}}_2\right)$, limestone$\left({\mathrm{CaCO}}_3\right)$ and sodium carbonate$\left({\mathrm{Na}}_2{\mathrm{CO}}_3\right)$.
• It is made by solidifying the molten glass below its freezing point hence, it is called supercooled liquid.

Uses of glass -

• For making windows and doors.
• For making lenses and prisms for optical activities.
