  1. Organisms that possess the ability to prepare their own food are called autotrophs.

Photosynthesis:

  1. Green plants contain the green pigment called chlorophyll which can trap the solar energy and convert carbon dioxide and water into food (glucose) and oxygen during photosynthesis.
  2. Since the green plants have the ability to produce glucose as their own food through photosynthesis, they are called autotrophs.
