Question

Why are green plants called the producers?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Plants are the only organisms (with algae as an exception) in the ecosystem which are known to produce food on their own. All the other organisms depend on plants for their food.
  2. To explain this let's look at the food chain:

ProducersPrimaryconsumersSecondaryconsumersTertiaryconsumersPlantsHerbivoresCarnivoresOmnivores

3. Plants produce food by using chlorophyll, carbon dioxide and water in presence of sunlight.

Hence, plants are called the producers.
