Question

Why are Halogens not found in free state?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,
The halogens have a configuration in which there are 7 electrons in the valence shell this makes them highly reactive as they are deficient in just one electron to a stable configuration . Therefore the halogens combine with other halogen atoms to form a covalent bond so as to get a stable octet.
Hence the halogens are not found in free state.
