Question

Why are holes in spades slightly smaller than the size of wooden handle ?

Open in App
Solution

The hole is smaller so that the wooden handle gets fixed firmly. Even a few millimetres bigger hole or same sized hole will not be able to hold the handle firmly and the two parts will separate easily while digging. hence, the hole in spade is slightly smaller than the size of wooden handle.
