Question

Why are houses painted white in the hot regions?

Open in App
Solution

The reason are:

  1. Light coloured or smooth and shiny surfaces are known to reflect the radiant heat. For example mirrors, white coloured clothes, etc.
  2. Similarly, when painted white, the walls of the houses reflect the radiant heat from the sun which keeps it cool.

Hence, the walls of the house in hotter regions are painted white.
