Why are igneous rocks considered as primary rocks?

Open in App
Solution

Instructions:
  • Definition of igneous rocks
  • Formation of igneous rocks
Solution:
  • Igneous rock is formed by the cooling and solidification of molten Earth materials.
  • For example we have basalt and granite.
  • Igneous rocks are formed directly from the molten lava, so it does not depend on any other rock for its formation.
  • And also, the igneous rock acts as a source rock for the other two either directly or indirectly.
  • Because of this very reason the igneous rocks are also called primary rocks or parent rocks.
