INERT GASES:

  • The rightmost group of the periodic table contains six elements (helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, and radon); all of them are gases. They are called inert gases as they are not reactive.
  • Inert gases are described below:
  1. Helium - It is used to fill weather balloons.
  2. Neon - It is used in fluorescent lights that are used in signboards.
  3. Argon - It is used for welding stainless steel, and for filling electric bulbs.
  4. Radon - Radiations from radon are used to treat cancer.
