Question

Why are medicines more effective in the colloidal states?

Open in App
Solution

Colloidal solution:-

  • Colloidal solutions are a type of mixture in which microscopically dispersed insoluble particles of one substance are suspended into another substance.
  • The size of such suspended particles in a colloid range from 1 to 1000 nanometres (10-9metres).
  • Due to the large surface area of the colloids, the medicine is much more effective in a colloidal state, as the drug particles are large in size.
  • As a result these get easily absorbed in the tissues of our body.
  • For example, antibiotics such as penicillin are injected into our bodies in a colloidal form.
