Question

Why are mole gametes produced in thousands while female gametes are few?

Open in App
Solution

The number of male gametes is always more than produced female gametes. Female gamete is limited in number and stationary. Male gametes are produced in thousands to increase the probability of fertilization. For instance- in the case of humans, robust and motile sperms or male gametes compete with other male gametes for their survival and ultimately only one sperm or male gamete is able to fertilize the ovum or female gamete to complete the fertilization process.
