Solution

Xylem:

  1. Xylem is a type of vascular tissue which is present in the plants, that is primarily transporting water & nutrients from roots to stem and the leaves.
  2. They are also responsible for providing mechanical strength to plants.
  3. On basis of origin, there are 2 types of xylem cells:
    1. Primary xylem: originating from the procambium, further divided into the protoxylem & metaxylem
    2. Secondary xylem: originates from the vascular cambium
  4. The cambium in dicotyledonous stems is found between the xylem and the phloem.
  5. Such vascular bundles due to the presence of cambium have the capability to form secondary phloem and xylem tissues. Consequently, they are called open vascular bundles.
