Question

Why are PLUMULE and RADICLE enclosed in sheaths?

Open in App
Solution

In monocotyledons, the pumule and radicle are enclosed in sheaths called the coleoptile and the coleorhiza respectively. The pumule and radicle burst through these coverings when germination starts. These sheaths are to protect the pumule and radicle.
