Why are railway tracks laid on large-sized concrete sleepers? Explain.

Open in App
Solution

  1. Formula:- P=FA
  2. As we know pressure is inversely proportional to the area.
  3. So, railway tracks are laid on broad large-sized concrete sleepers to provide maximum area under them.
  4. Due to this pressure acting on the ground under the sleepers gets reduced.
  5. This prevents the sinking of the ground due to the weight of the running train.
