Why are rubbers called elastomers?

Open in App
Solution

Elastomers & their properties
  • Elastomers are polymers with elastic-like properties. Such polymers regain their shape when a load is removed from them.
  • Rubber is a natural polymer and possesses elastic properties, i.e. it gets stretched upon the application of force and regains its original shape after the force is removed.
Hence, rubbers are called elastomers.
