Why are sedimentary rocks always formed in layers

Open in App
Solution

We know that sedimentary rock are formed from sediments which are the products of weathering and erosion of the preexisting rocks in a suitable basin(eg sea ocean Lake etc)these sediments are deposited according to their size ,shape to forms layering in the sedimentary
rocks .The uppermost layer is always youngest while the bottom layer is oldest . When the layer is 1cm in width then it is called lamination .We can easily see layers in the sedimentary rocks .we found sometimes alternate white and black bands in the rocks ,sometimes different types of layers are found because of their type of deposition of different sediments.
