Question

Why are sodium and potassium stored in kerosene?

Open in App
Solution

  • Potassium and sodium are highly reactive metals.
  • They react vigorously with oxygen and moisture (water) present in the air and release a large amount of heat during the reaction which may cause a fire.
  • Therefore, to avoid such accidents, potassium and sodium are kept immersed in kerosene.
