Question

Why are sodium and potassium stored in kerosene?

Open in App
Solution

Potassium and sodium are highly reactive metals. They react vigorously with oxygen and moisture (water) present in the air and release a large amount of heat during the reaction which may cause a fire. Therefore, to avoid such accidents, potassium and sodium are kept immersed in kerosene.
