Why are solids rigid and hard?

Rigidity :

• Rigidity is defined as the property of object because of which it retain its shape under the applied external force.
• Due to this property when an external force is applied on the solids, there won’t be any change in its shape.

• Solids are rigid because of the inter molecular forces of attraction present in the solid.
• The inter molecular forces existing among the particles are very strong.
• The movement of particles in solids is almost negligible because of small intermolecular space and thus solids are rigid and hard in nature.
