Testes are located outside the abdominal cavity in a sac-like structure called the scrotum because the temperature required for the formation of sperm is lower than body temperature. Spermatogenesis is inhibited at a temperature above 40° C.
The temperature of the scrotum is 2° C to 3° C lower than the body temperature, which allows the proper development and formation of sperms.
