Why are the cells generally of a small size ?

The smallness of cells is a salient feature of the cell. The reason for the smallness of the cell is

1:- efficiency

2:- different regions of a cell can communicate with each other rapidly for the cell to function

3:- for passing through the smallest passages. for example RBC pass through veins a, capillaries and arteries freely.

4. The ratio between surface area to volume is more when the cell size is small. This helps in accelerating the rate of diffusion in multi celluar organisms to meet higher oxygen demand.
