Why are the number of chronic diseases fewer than acute diseases?

Open in App
Solution

Chronic diseases: The diseases last for a long period, usually develop slowly but have major effects on health.

Acute diseases:

The diseases last for a short period, but they begin rapidly and get worse by the time if not treated, but they last for a short duration only.

  1. The number of chronic diseases is fewer as compared to acute diseases because chronic diseases are metabolic disorders that develop slowly and appear after middle age, such as diabetes and hypertension while some require long exposure to the pathogen such as leprosy.
  2. All cases suggest that chronic diseases are slow-developing diseases. Thus, they occur in fewer numbers as compared to acute diseases which begin rapidly but last for some time as the common cold is a viral disease that lasts for 3-5 days.
