Question

Why are the reactions involving deuterium slower than that of protium?

Open in App
Solution

reactivity of protium is more than that of deuterium. It is due to relatively stronger bond in dutirium and weaker bond in protium.
Since the bond is weaker in protium, bond dissociation enthalpy is less. So it will react faster and reaction speed will increase.
