Question

Question 3
Why are the small numbers of surviving tigers a cause of worry from the point of view of genetics?

Open in App
Solution

As the tiger population is decreasing sharply, the genetic pool of the tigers is also decreasing. This leads to a limitation on the variations that can be introduced in the genetic makeup of the tigers. This might have serious implications. For example- if a disease spreads in the tiger population, it might wipe out the entire population without leaving any survivors. This might even lead to their extinction.
