Question

Why are the walls of a thermos flask silvered?

Open in App
Solution

The inner side of the outer wall and the outer side of the inner wall of thermos flasks are silvered to minimise the loss of heat due to radiation. When the heat from inside the flask strikes the silvered wall, the heat radiation gets reflected back to the flask because silver is a good reflector of heat.
