Why are there more bones in the body of infants than in the body of adult human beings?

Dear Student,

A human newborn usually has around 300 soft bones. These soft bones are made up of cartilage (mostly) and as the baby grows their bones harden and some of them fuse together, as a result the number of bones in adult human is reduced to 206.
