Why are we looking at alternate sources of energy?

Renewable energy:

1. Renewable energy is energy that is produced from natural processes and continuously replenished.
2. One can define renewable energy as those energies which can never be depleted.
3. Example - Wind energy, Solar energy, Geothermal energy, Hydropower.

Non-renewable energy

1. Non-renewable energy comes from sources that will run out or will not be replenished in a lifetime.
2. Example - Fossil fuels: coal, petroleum, and natural gas.

We are looking for alternative sources of energy because:

1. Fossil fuels are non-renewable sources of energy.
2. They are not available in large numbers and cannot be replaced.
3. Fossil fuels will get exhausted if their consumption is not regulated.
