∙ The whales and fishes are different on the basis of the following mentioned characteristics::
∙ The whales are homeotherms or warm blooded animals( temperature of body is maintained constantly) but the fishes are poikilotherms or cold blooded animals (temperature of body changes according to the temperature of the environment.
∙ The whales are viviparous (give birth to the young ones) but the fishes are oviparous (lay eggs).
∙ The whales have four chambered hearts containing two auricles and two ventricles while the fishes have two chambered hearts containing one auricle and one ventricle.
∙ In whales, the exoskeleton is devoid of scales while the exoskeleton of fishes consists of scales. Scales are mainly used for protection and locomotion.
∙ The whales have lungs for respiration but the fishes have gills for respiration.
