Question

Why bond length decreases as bond order increases?REASON ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear user,Bond order :Bond order is the no of bonds between a pair of electrons of twoparticipating atoms.Bond length :It is the average distance between the nuclei of the two bonded atoms. Now,Bond order is inversely proportional to bond length becausewhen more no of atoms take place in bond formation, the bond getsshorter because the force of attraction between the atoms of a molecule increases, due to which atoms come closer to each other and as result, the bond length decreases.
