Question

why brownian motion do not occur in solid

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Brownian motion is due to the bombardment of colloidal particles by the molecules of the dispersion medium which are in constant motion.

In case of fluids, this constant motion of molecules can be observed but in case of solids, there is no such constant motion of the molecules of the dispersed medium.
That's why brownian motion cannot be observed in solids.
