Question

Why can one ignore quantisation of electric charge when dealing with macroscopic i.e., large scale charges ?

Open in App
Solution

  • Quantization of charge means that the amount of charge on a body is integral multiple of smallest unit of charge, which is electronic charge e i.e. Q=ne, where n is integer
  • This smallest unit of charge(e) is practically very small, e=1.6×1019C.
  • On macroscopic level, amount of charge transferred is very large as compared to e.
  • Therefore, quantization has no significance at such a large scale.
