Question

Why can our elbow not move backward?

Open in App
Solution

The elbow has a hinge joint. This type of joint allows the movement in one plane only. Therefore, our elbow cannot move backward.

Hinge joints do not naturally rotate or move from side to side. However, these unnatural movements can occur if someone sustains an injury to a hinge joint.
