why can't electric wires be covered with wood ?

Why can't electrical wires be covered with other materials known for their resistance to electrical current, such as wood or glass? The main reason plastic is used is because of its flexibility and ability to easily bend around corners and enter electrical boxes safely. It also has the great capability to dissipate heat, and is slow burning as well.the wood is not used because of its lack of flexibility and ability to easily bend and kept it in electrical boxes
