Solution

Dear student

The separation of H+ from HCl, requires an aqueous medium , for breakdown of ions. Acids dissociate to form hydrogen ions in presence of water only.

The dissociation of HCl in water occur as follows:
HCl ------> H+ + Cl-
This reaction can also be written as
HCl + H2O ------> H3O+ + Cl-
