Why can't acetyl CoA make glucose?

Acetyl CoA:

  1. Acetyl CoA is formed by the oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate from glycolysis.
  2. Transition of acetyl CoA to pyruvate is an irreversible reaction.
  3. So acetyl CoA cannot make glucose.
  4. The process through which glucose is synthesized from non-carbohydrate sources is called gluconeogenesis.
  5. Acetyl CoA can be converted into fatty acids.
  6. But fatty acids and ketogenic amino acids cannot be used to synthesize glucose.
