Question

Why can't magnetic field lines cross?

Open in App
Solution

Properties of magnetic field lines

  1. Magnetic field lines are continuous in nature, they start from the north pole and end at the south pole.
  2. They form closed loops.
  3. They do not intersect each other because if they intersect, there will be two directions to the magnetic field at that point, that is not possible.

Therefore, magnetic field lines do not cross each other
